1.Explosion-proof requirements for different battery types
Explosion-proof lead-acid battery
Application: underground coal mine, fuel car starting power supply.
Requirement:
-Valve controlled (VRLA) design to prevent hydrogen accumulation.
-The enclosure is ATEX or UL 1203 explosion-proof certified.
-Working temperature range-40℃~60℃.
Explosion-proof lithium battery
Application: explosion-proof handheld equipment, electric mining vehicles.
Requirement:
-Passed IEC 62133 (safety standards) and UN 38.3 (transport safety tests).
-Heat runaway suppression.
-Multi-layer protection BMS (voltage, temperature, current three-terminal monitoring) must be integrated.
2.Special environment adaptation
Underground coal mine
-MA/KC certification (China Coal Mine Safety) must be passed, and ordinary lithium batteries are prohibited (special lithium batteries are required).
petrochemical engineering
-The explosion-proof rating should match Zone 1 (frequent occurrence of flammable gas) or Zone 2 (occasional occurrence).
Military/aerospace
-Requirements for extreme temperatures (-55℃~125℃) and impact resistance (e.g., MIL-STD-810G).
3. Suggestions for the selection of explosion-proof batteries
-Identify the type of hazardous environment: gas (such as hydrogen), dust (such as aluminum powder) or mixed environment.
-Prioritize intrinsically safe (Ex ia/ib) batteries: These batteries do not release enough energy to ignite the environment even in the event of a failure.
-Maintenance and monitoring: check the battery seal and BMS status regularly to avoid the deterioration of explosion-proof performance caused by aging.
